This mock editorial journal cover is based on an article by Bello et al. (2018) about an initiative to create a “Microbiota Vault” with the goal of collecting and preserving human microbiota for future analysis and clinical usage.

Sketch
A refined sketch of the journal cover idea. I employed a strong sense of lighting and selective use of colour to add visual interest.

3D Asset Production
I created various models in Maya including five different scientist characters to populate the scene. Once all assets were made, they were placed within the scene and lighted accordingly.

Test Render
A work-in-progress test render of the scene without the final lighting or materials added.

Raw Render
The resulting render straight from Maya before any post-processing editing was completed.
