Near-Earth objects (NEOs) are an asteroid or comet which passes within 45 million km of the Earth's orbit and can potentially pose a threat to our planet. This data visualization showcases the closest approaches to Earth by NEOs from April 2022-2023 and highlights some exceptional NEOs within this year.

Sketches
At this stage, I thought about which features of the NEO's are the most relevant to the audience and how to best represent these variables.

Data Collection
I collected data from NASA’s Center for Near Earth Object Studies and the Small-Body Database. Then, I compiled and cleaned the data in Exel and Tableau.

Data Processing
Using Tableau, I created graphs for each of the NEO variables (classification, size, orbit path, speed, etc.) which I would then compile into one graph.

Production
A work-in-progress shot of putting together the piece in Adobe Illustrator. The exported elements were combined and stylized using Illustrator's 3D functionality.
